World Backup Day: Why Companies Decide to Protect Their SaaS Data

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

For many organizations, it’s not the one-off corrupted record or accidental deletion that keeps them up. It’s the large-scale event that grinds operations to a halt. Think of cyberattacks like ransomware, platform outages, natural disasters, or even a global pandemic.

Even though SaaS applications are very reliable, outages do happen. Several years ago, a service disruption forced Salesforce to block access to thousands of its customers for just over 15 hours. To put that into perspective, a single hour of server downtime can cost enterprises between $300,000 and $400,000. By having backups outside of your primary SaaS application, your data will still be accessible in the event of an outage, allowing you to maintain continuity.

Failure to comply with these regulations can result in hefty fines, legal repercussions, and damage to reputation. According to Saviynt's The True Cost of Non-Compliance Report, the typical cost of a non-compliance event is $5.9M. Backing up SaaS data ensures organizations have a failsafe to meet regulatory requirements and safeguard sensitive information.
