For a company as globally recognized as Molson Coors, ensuring the protection and accessibility of business-critical data is paramount. With a vast product portfolio and a presence in over 100 countries, Molson Coors depends on Salesforce to manage essential business data, including customer agreements, distribution documents, and sales information.
However, the complexity of its Salesforce environment—spread across multiple entities and territories—posed significant challenges.
“As a brewing company, selling beer is the core concept for us,” says Mamatha Dhanoji, App Development Associate Manager working with Molson Coors. “If we’re not protecting this data, we risk losing business in the event of an emergency.” That leaves a lot of thirsty people.
The challenge intensified when Molson Coors expanded its Salesforce capabilities by adding new business entities like BeerMate and Consumer Goods Cloud (CGC). Managing data migration across multiple orgs with unique data hierarchies became a time-consuming and complex task.
Molson Coors needed a solution that could streamline its data management processes while ensuring that data integrity was maintained across all orgs.
“We have two different organizations here—BeerMate and CG Cloud—and when we need to replicate data across orgs, it’s not an easy task,” Mamatha explains. “Recreating the hierarchical relationships from scratch would be time-consuming, so having the right tools in place was crucial.” Cue the search for the ideal backup solution.
Beyond operational challenges, business continuity was at risk if this backup solution wasn’t implemented. The team at Molson Coors knew that losing access to key data during migrations or in the event of an unplanned outage could have severe consequences. The company needed a backup and recovery solution to ensure its data was secure and accessible, even in emergencies.
With the increasing complexity of managing data across multiple Salesforce orgs, the team at Molson Coors knew it needed a data seeding solution that could streamline its processes without sacrificing data accuracy or efficiency. While Salesforce offers native tools like Sandbox Refresh and Data Loader, these solutions didn’t provide the level of automation and user-friendliness that Molson Coors was after.
“Creating hierarchical relationships from scratch is not an easy task,” says Mamatha, reflecting on the manual process of replicating data across orgs. “It requires someone with end-to-end knowledge, and doing this manually is tedious.”
The challenge of manually managing data—particularly when dealing with complex parent-child relationships like accounts, opportunities, and cases—was significant. Molson Coors needed a solution that could automate these processes, ensuring that data could be seeded quickly and accurately across orgs. This is where Own’s seeding templates came in.
“Own was a better option because it’s user-friendly, efficient, and accurate,” says Rosemary Smith, Technical Product Manager at Molson Coors. “With Salesforce Data Loader, we’d have to go through each object manually, which takes a lot more time. Own’s templates handle everything in one process.”
The team at Molson Coors quickly realized that Own’s ability to automate data seeding while maintaining accurate hierarchical relationships was unmatched by any native Salesforce tool. By leveraging Own, it could replicate data across orgs within minutes, freeing up valuable time for its developers to focus on other business-critical tasks.
“Instead of spending time manually creating and managing data, our developers were able to focus on developing new functionalities,” Mamatha explains. “Own’s seeding capabilities saved us significant time.”
Once Molson Coors decided to adopt Own Accelerate for data seeding, the implementation process was smooth and straightforward. The team quickly integrated Own into its Salesforce environment, allowing them to automate data management tasks that had previously required significant manual effort.
One of the key benefits of Own for Molson Coors was the ability to create and replicate data using sandbox seeding templates. “With this seeding, we are able to replicate data within minutes by creating templates,” says Mamatha. “It saves us the manual effort and time of creating hierarchical relationships from scratch.”
The ability to replicate data efficiently meant that Molson Coors could move data between orgs without delays, even when handling complex data sets. This was especially important as it worked to migrate data between its two major business entities—BeerMate and CG.
Beyond the efficiency of seeding templates, Own’s anonymization feature was another critical advantage. As a company that deals with large amounts of business-critical data, Molson Coors needed to ensure that sensitive data was protected during sandbox seeding. Own’s anonymization feature allowed the team to mask sensitive data before replicating it to lower environments—keeping Molson Coors compliant with data protection standards.
“Anonymization is a magic feature for us,” Mamatha explains. “It allows us to protect client information while seeding data from production to lower orgs. This way, we’re able to test and develop without exposing sensitive data.”
Additionally, Molson Coors was able to schedule seeding templates, automate repetitive tasks, and allow the team to focus on more strategic initiatives. “We can schedule templates to run on a weekly or monthly basis,” Mamatha notes. “It’s one less thing for our team to worry about.”
With Own in place, Molson Coors was able to streamline its data management processes, saving time and ensuring the integrity of its data across orgs.
After implementing Own, Molson Coors saw significant improvements in both its data management processes and overall business efficiency. By using Own’s sandbox seeding and archiving solutions, the team was able to streamline workflows, reduce costs, and enhance data protection.
One of the most tangible results was the reduction in Salesforce data storage usage. Before using Own, Molson Coors was approaching its storage capacity, which impacted system performance and posed a risk of incurring additional storage costs.
“Before Own, we were at 90% of our Salesforce storage capacity,” says Mamatha. “With the archiving policies we’ve implemented, we’ve been able to stay within 50-60% of our storage limits, saving us from having to buy more storage.”
Molson Coors freed up space for new data, improved system performance, and eliminated the need to purchase additional storage from Salesforce.
Own also provided Molson Coors with greater peace of mind when protecting its business-critical data. “We use archiving to store older data, making our current data more efficient and improving system performance,” says Rosemary.
What’s more, the archived data remained easily accessible whenever it was needed. “If we need to retrieve data for reporting purposes, Own makes it easy for us to search and retrieve historical data,” Mamatha added.
In addition to the data protection and efficiency gains, Own also allowed Molson Coors to maintain business continuity by providing a reliable way to retrieve and restore data. “Own helped us resolve incidents more quickly by allowing us to copy data into our UAT orgs for further testing and analysis,” says Rosemary. “This improved our response time and ensured that we could keep our business operations running smoothly.”
With Own in place, Molson Coors not only improved its data management processes but also ensured that its business could continue operating smoothly, no matter the circumstances.
From ensuring data continuity with Recover and simplifying data replication through Accelerate to optimizing storage with Archive, Molson Coors leveraged Own's solutions to streamline operations, reduce costs, and safeguard business-critical data.
