Improve Backup Efficiency with new Application Exclusions Capability
Backing up data is not always as simple as it seems. A common myth is the most effective way to protect your data is simply backing up ALL your data as frequently as possible. However, this isn’t the case with SaaS applications like ServiceNow, where not all data is equally critical. By strategically excluding data from being backed up, you can manage your data more efficiently in several ways:
- Simplify compliance and privacy: In some cases, you only need to back up data to meet your compliance requirements. So why bother spending resources to back up data that has no purpose after its initial use?
- Efficient data usage: Duplicated records don’t need to be backed up, and would not be useful when restoring data in your instance. Duplicate and redundant data can also risk performance issues in audits or queries.
- Faster backup times: Data cannot be moved instantly and requires resources and time to be processed during backups. While Own Recover is focused on backing up your data as efficiently as possible, sometimes you may only need to backup a few tables to meet your compliance retention requirements.
Application Exclusions is a new feature we just launched with Own Recover for ServiceNow. This feature allows users to exclude groups of tables at the application level, allowing you to select greater volumes of data to exclude, and providing more configurations to your backups without sacrificing data resiliency. Users can select the applications to exclude in the Backup Exclusions Rules tab within their ServiceNow backup service.
The Applications List will be displayed in real-time, as the metadata is pulled directly from ServiceNow at load time. This ensures that any change within the ServiceNow instance will be reflected on the exclusion list so users manage their exclusion policy based on the latest change updates.
After saving your application exclusion policy, your next backup will exclude the selected applications and their related tables per your exclusion policy.
By using Application Exclusions to exclude non-critical data from being backed up, your backups can run faster, providing improved data protection and data resilience.
